This past Saturday, Eric drove to Whitakers, NC to oversee the ginning of our second annual crop of certified organic NC cotton.

Certified organic cotton in North Carolina…

Let it sink in.

Getting anything to be labeled “certified organic” is no easy feat. But sustainability and improving options for NC businesses is a serious passion of TS Design’s President, Eric Henry.

There were serious challenges with this year’s crop.  We only harvested 17 acres from the 100 acres planted – most of it was lost to a freak hail storm in the summer. The rest was lost to weeds, which continue to be the main challenge in growing organic cotton.

Overall, 25 bales of cotton where harvested. And early indications show that the fiber quality will be better than our first year’s harvest. We couldn’t be happier to learn about that detail!

And so, the adventure continues. Eric’s passion continues to provide a driving force towards improvement and progress. We’re very proud to be a part of this chapter in North Carolina’s farming history – and even prouder to be supporting NC jobs with our “Cotton of the Carolinas – Organic” project.

Note: Due to the much lower volume in cotton available, we expect to sell out soon. Contact Eric if you’re interested in purchasing yarn, fabric and – of course – t-shirts!
