I received the opportunity on Monday to sit in on a meeting at TS Designs.  Little did I know, I would be jumping out of a proverbial plane into a foreign country where I knew not a word of the national language – Renewable Energy Land.

If you have had the pleasure of visiting TS Designs in Burlington, North Carolina, you’ve witnessed our AWESOME natural energy sources: one ground-based solar array that is pretty intimidating, its even more intimidating big brother array on the roof, and a wind turbine whirling away.  It’s amazing that we have the tools to wrangle the sun and the wind and harness them up to drive our business.  But the big question now is, are we utilizing them at their highest level of potential?

As of our meeting with energy guru consultant and partner, Tom Honey, of Honey Electric Solar, we realized that the unfortunate answer to the above inquiry was “no”.  Well that’s all about to change.  With an update in technology and a little tweak here and there of rewiring, in addition to our sleek, newly refinished wind turbine, TS Designs is soon going to be pumping out solar and wind power to the max.  Now, we’re fairly realistic people.  Running a t-shirt company takes a lot of energy.  However, as we have pledged in our tagline, we will always print t-shirts for good.  This means that while we operate with the help of the Big Guys in the electricity industry, we still make enough of our own power to work towards offsetting our carbon footprint each and every day.

What is the next step, you might ask?  Revitalize.  Right now, we’re dismantling most of our current operating system and installing the latest and greatest in converter and inverter technology.  Soon we’ll be utilizing even more of our own hard-earned energy, and pumping any excess back into the grid.  It’s pretty impressive stuff.  I was in awe of all that TS Designs is doing to not only get the best bang for their buck, but for your buck too, as well as for Mother Nature.

If you’d like to know more about our solar or wind energy, don’t be shy.  Ask away.  We’re always looking to give our community the low down on what’s happening here at TS Designs.  Keep your eyes open for our upcoming workshops this spring and summer to make you and your business even more sustainable too!
